Changing the stereo

Minis come with either the Wave or Boost stereo, changing it should take around 45 minutes.  Please see our seperate instructions if you have the HK system.

Tools required; flat blade screwdriver, philips screwdriver, T20 & T40 torx drivers

Parts required; New stereo, Facia adaptor, aerial adaptor, harness adaptor (wave or boost depending on original stereo)

The parts are available as a kit from our online shop.

If the car has a Multi Function Steering Wheel then a range of MFSW adaptors are available

All our guides are followed at your own risk

1

Ensure the ignition key is turned off.

If the car has a glove box, open it.

It the car has a knee bolster pull it down from the top. (It is held with a metal pop clip either side of the steerin column & can be very tight)

2

Remove 2 torx screws from the side of each dash pillar (Can be T20 or T40)

3

Remove 1 philips screw from each front cup holder

4

Carefully lever out the mirror switch panel using a flat blade screwdriver

5

Remove the 2 philips screws from under the mirror switch panel

6

Slide the centre console back about 5cm.

On 05 spec onwards cars there is a coin tray under the hand brake which prevents the console from sliding back. Put a few pages of a magazine over the coin holder to protect it, then lift & slide the centre console back

7

Push down on each pillar in turn and pull towards you (take care not to scratch the dash)

8

Undo the 4 T20 screws holding the radio in & slide it out

9

Release the aerial lead (small press lock) & remove the rubber bung from the middle of he radio

10

Unlock & unplug the power lead.

The wave plug (shown) is held by a sliding lock

The Boost plug has a swivelling latch

11

Plug in the aerial adaptor & attach the rubber bung to the back of the new radio.

12

Attach the harness adaptor (wave shown)

13

Fit the facia adaptor using the original radio screws

14

Insert the new radio cage & bend back as many lock tabs as possible

15

You are now left with standard aerial plug & ISO plugs ready to attach your new radio.

NOTE: Some USA stereos come without the ISO socket but just have bare wires. They can either be spliced into out adaptor of we can supply an ISO socket kit to attach to the radio.

16

Slide the radio in & test

17

Refit the pillars by pushing down & forwards.

Slide the console back into place (on 05 spec on cars there are 2 lips forward of the pillars that the console must slide under)
