Changing the Wave or Boost radio in a Mini is a simple process (providing you use a radio fitting kit)

These instructions do not apply to the HK system as aftermarket radios will not work with the HK amp/speakers  

Tools required; Torx drivers (T20 & T40) flat blade screw driver, philips screwdriver.

Parts required; New stereo, Radio fitting kit (boost or wave)

  1. Remove key. 
  2. 1 right tube.jpg (38567 bytes)If car has glove box, open it, if car has drivers dash panel, pull down towards floor (it is held in by 1 pop clip each side)
  3. 2 bolser down.jpg (37121 bytes)3 left tube.jpg (33525 bytes)Remove 2 torx screws from the side of each dash pillar (T40 early cars, T20 later)
  4. 4 cup screws.jpg (44632 bytes)Remove screws from front cup holders
  5. 5 mirror panel.jpg (45008 bytes)6 mirror out.jpg (49965 bytes)Carefully lever out mirror switch panel and remove 2 screws from under it.
  6. 7 centre console.jpg (67084 bytes)Slide centre console backwards about 5cm
  7. 8 left tube pull.jpg (30995 bytes)Push down on each pillar in turn and pull from top towards you (take care not to scratch dash)
  8. 9 factory radio screws.jpg (44181 bytes)Undo 4 T20 screws holding radio in & slide it out
  9. 10 back of factory radio.jpg (49499 bytes)Unlock & unplug aerial lead & bung
  10. 11 radio lock.jpg (48974 bytes)Unlock & unplug power lead (Wave has sliding lock, boost hinged lock) pic shows wave

  12. Attach rubber bung to back of new radio
  13. 15 facia fitted.jpg (52607 bytes)Fit facia adaptor using radio screws
  14. 16 cage in.jpg (48373 bytes)Insert new radio cage and bend back lock tabs
  15. 17 iso & aerial.jpg (47862 bytes)You are now left with the standard ISO radio plugs to attach to your radio, plug in and slide into dash.

  17. 19 pillar goin in.jpg (39458 bytes)Refit pillars by pushing down & forwards, slide centre console back into place & refit all screws

Radio can now be removed/refitted without stripping dash.

Note; Some USA radios come without ISO connectors - in this case remove the ISO plug from the harness adaptor & join to the radio wires. (normally color to color)
